Weekend rail work at Crystal City Metro finishes two weeks early

Weekend construction work has wrapped up early at the Crystal City Metro station, shaving two weeks off of the original schedule of closures.

The era of shuttle buses operating on the weekend at Crystal City is over, and Blue and Yellow Line trains are back to operating as usual, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced on social media.

“While tunnel work inside the station is complete two weeks ahead of schedule and weekend rail service is back on, the project is still under construction to continue building the pavilion, elevators, and other components above and below ground,” Claudia Pors, spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Services, told ARLnow.

The Metro station was originally scheduled to be closed for 10 weekends to support construction on its forthcoming second entrance. Closures began in February.

“We thank you for your patience during the planned weekend closures as we completed critical work to improve access and capacity at the station,” WMATA wrote. “The second entrance is set to open next year.”
