A new spot for coffee and baked goods has opened up inside an upscale bistro in Virginia Square.
For Five Cafe, a concept from the same team behind For Five Coffee Roasters, has opened at the front of The Angie (3901 Fairfax Drive), serving classic coffee options like espresso and macchiato along with freshly baked croissants, biscuits, cookies and muffins.
For Five has earlier hours than The Angie, which opened in late June. The cafe is open daily from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., while the bistro is open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
“We have recent customers that have been telling us they needed something like this, a place where you can have a seat and chat,” general manager Nicole Argueta told ARLnow.
Business partners Stefanos Vouvoudakis and Tom Tsiplakos own both The Angie and For Five, as well as the D.C. Greek restaurant Balos Estiatorio. For Five Coffee Roasters — the larger, full-menu coffee shop version of the cafe — is a nationwide chain that started in New York City.
For Five opened its first Arlington location in Courthouse in 2020, and added a Rosslyn cafe in 2024.
For Five Cafe offers a smaller range of options than other locations, sticking to baked goods that are replaced “every couple of hours” and drinks that include specialty options such as a matcha latte and Dona Chai Latte.
“Every time For Five opens a new cafe, the team looks for ways to make each location unique while elevating the customer experience,” a company bio says. “Our cafes represent our New York background, our love for quality coffee, and the understanding that it’s not just the coffee, but where you drink it that matters.”
Before opening their first brick and mortar store, Vouvoudakis and Tsiplakos started For Five as a roasting facility, selling their beans to other restaurants. They still control every step of the coffee-making process.
“If you live around the area, it’s perfect because you can have both in the same spot,” Argueta said. “Get your coffee before work or before going to the gym, or whatever, and then you can come for a happy hour or later on at the same spot near you.”
