Two pedestrians, a man and a woman, were killed in separate crashes on a stormy Sunday night.
The first happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Carlin Springs Road and Columbia Pike, just over the Arlington border in Fairfax County. A man was struck by a Metrobus turning right onto Carlin Springs Road from Columbia Pike.
The man was pulled from under the bus by first responders and rushed to the VHC trauma center in Arlington but was pronounced dead.
Fairfax County police and Metro Transit Police are investigating the crash. Carlin Springs Road was closed in both directions during the investigation.

The second crash happened a short time later, about two miles away, on S. Glebe Road at 14th Street S. in the Douglas Park neighborhood south of Columbia Pike.
Initial reports suggest that a woman was struck by a vehicle at the intersection, then was found unresponsive in the roadway by first responders. She was also reportedly rushed to the VHC trauma center.
The victim succumbed to her injuries, Arlington County police announced Monday afternoon, noting that she was in the crosswalk when she was struck. So far, no charges have been announced against the driver.

The Arlington County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash at S. Glebe Road and 14th Street S. which occurred in the evening on August 16, 2026.
At approximately 8:51 p.m., police and fire were dispatched to the report of a crash. The preliminary investigation indicates the driver was traveling southbound on S. Glebe Road when he struck a pedestrian as she was in the crosswalk. The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The driver, and sole occupant of the striking vehicle, remained at the scene.
The identity of the pedestrian, an adult female, is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
