UPDATED: Tornado and severe thunderstorm watches issued for Arlington and D.C. area

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Tornado Watch have been issued for Arlington, Falls Church and much of the D.C. area.

The tornado watch was issued around 3 p.m., about a half hour after the storm watch. Both watches are in effect until 10 p.m.

Strong storms are likely later today, forecasters say, and may pack hail and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. There’s also a risk of tornadoes.

According to Capital Weather, Arlington and other areas inside the Beltway are at the greatest risk of storms from 4-7 p.m.
