Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in a large apartment building in Ballston on Sunday night.
Initial reports suggest that a fire spread after breaking out in the kitchen of a unit at the 1020 Apartments building at 1020 N. Quincy Street. As of publication time, firefighters were working to get the flames under control and to ventilate smoke from the building.
Three people are being evaluated by medics, possibly for smoke inhalation, according to scanner traffic. Traffic in the area was blocked due to the large emergency response.
In an update just before 11:30 p.m., the Arlington County Fire Department said that the fire was out and two people — one resident and one firefighter — were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.
This is the second fire in a residential tower in the Ballston area in as many weeks, after last week’s fire at the Hyde Park condo building.
Final update: One occupant and one firefighter were treated and transported with non life threatening injuries. The smoke has been ventilated from the structure. Fire marshals are on scene investigating the origin and cause.

Arlington Firefighters were seen busting out windows of an 8th floor unit. You can smell the smoke all the way down the block. https://t.co/SxNb1UuXYg pic.twitter.com/pYgj3hbpEd
