A man is facing felony charges after an Arlington County police officer allegedly came upon him choking a robbery victim in Courthouse early yesterday morning (Monday).
The attack happened at 15th Street N. at N. Courthouse Road, a block from Arlington County police headquarters.
Police were dispatched to a report of an assault around 12:30 a.m. The victim was outside when a man approached and asked him for money, ACPD said. The victim handed over some cash, and the man then demanded more.
The man tried to take the victim’s bag, pulling the strap against his neck and making it hard for him to breathe, according to police. An officer arriving on scene saw the assault happening and took the man into custody.
The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he went to a hospital on his own afterward. The suspect is charged with malicious wounding, attempted robbery and strangulation, and is being held without bond.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2026-08240005, 15th Street N. at N. Courthouse Road. At approximately 12:29 a.m. on August 24, police were dispatched to the report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim was outside when the male suspect approached him and asked for money. The victim gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect allegedly demanded additional money. The suspect then attempted to steal the victim’s bag during which he pulled the strap at the victim’s neck, making it difficult for the victim to breathe. A responding officer observed the suspect assaulting the victim, gave commands and took him into custody. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and later self-reported to the hospital. [The suspect], 37, of No Fixed Address was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding, Attempted Robbery and Strangulation. He was held without bond.
The same report detailed an assault on an officer working the nightlife detail in Clarendon, captured on video after a fight spilled into the street at closing time.
Separately, six people — five of them wearing ski masks — tried to rob a victim of his clothes in Arlington Ridge, according to Friday’s crime report.
The suspect without a mask brandished what appeared to be a gun and demanded the victim’s clothing on the 1000 block of S. Arlington Ridge Road, police said. The victim ran off and was not hurt. It happened about an hour before police were called at 12:23 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, and the investigation is ongoing.
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY (late), 2026-08190264, 1000 block of S. Arlington Ridge Road. At approximately 12:23 a.m. on August 20, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. It was determined approximately one hour prior, the male victim was outside when he was approached by six male suspects, five of whom were wearing ski masks. The suspect without a mask brandished what appeared to be a firearm and demanded the victim’s clothing items. The victim ran from the scene and no injuries were reported. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
In another incident, a man was arrested outside a Crystal City business after police say he resisted an officer and tried to hit him.
Officers were called to the 400 block of 23rd Street S. around 5:30 p.m. last Thursday for a report of a man acting disorderly, ACPD said. It took additional officers to get him into custody. Medics treated and released him on scene for minor injuries he had before police arrived, and he was charged with assault on police, obstruction of justice and public intoxication.
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2026-08200143, 400 block of 23rd Street S. At approximately 5:31 p.m. on August 20, police were dispatched to the report of disorderly conduct. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect was allegedly acting disorderly outside a business. A responding officer made contact with the suspect on scene and attempted to take him into custody. The suspect resisted the officer and attempted to strike them. With the assistance of additional responding officers, he was taken into custody. Medics evaluated and released the suspect on scene for minor injuries sustained prior to police arrival. [The suspect], 35, of Brambleton, Va. was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Obstruction of Justice and Public Intoxication.
