Brawl caught on video outside Columbia Pike lounge, a night after bottle attack on same block

A late-night brawl spilled into Columbia Pike outside a hookah lounge early Sunday, a night after a man was hit with a glass bottle inside a business on the same block.

Video of Sunday’s fight, posted (below) by local public safety watcher Dave Statter, shows a group of people grappling in the street near S. Walter Reed Drive as a crowd watches from the sidewalk outside the lounge.

Statter said it happened shortly after 1 a.m. came around for the second time, during the extra hour from the end of daylight saving time.

“Maybe they were all dressed as MMA fighters for Halloween?” he wrote.

Police were dispatched shortly before 1:30 a.m. after several calls about a possible fight in the middle of the road at Columbia Pike and S. Walter Reed Drive, according to scanner traffic. One of those calls came from Caspi’s security staff, who asked police to hurry.

The first officer to arrive reported that nothing was active outside and that a large crowd was leaving as the lounge cleared out, according to scanner traffic. The fight was over by the time police got there, Statter said.

Nothing from that block on Sunday morning appears in ACPD’s latest crime report, released today.

The report does include an incident from around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, when an argument between two groups inside a business in the 2900 block of Columbia Pike turned physical. A woman hit a man in the head with a glass bottle and ran off before officers arrived, police said. The man was taken to the hospital with cuts.

That call also came from Caspi, according to initial reports.

From the latest ACPD crime report:

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2026-10310013, 2900 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 12:44 a.m. on October 31, police were dispatched to the report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim was inside the business when a group of individuals approached him and the subjects he was with and a verbal dispute ensued between both groups. The verbal dispute escalated to a physical altercation and a female suspect struck the victim with a glass bottle, resulting in lacerations. The suspect subsequently fled the scene prior to police arrival. The victim was transported to an area hospital for his injuries.

Caspi replaced Mazagan next to the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse in 2018.

In February 2023, a man was shot in front of Caspi after a dispute inside involving a large group, according to police. In May 2024, a man was charged with seriously injuring an officer outside a business in the 2900 block that Statter identified as Caspi.

Earlier today an ARLnow reporter spotted a note on the door of Caspi, encouraging patrons to “please respect our neighbors and keep noise to a minimum when entering and leaving the establishment.”

“Thank you for your understanding!” the sign said.
