JUST IN: Arlington and D.C. under Flood Watch tonight

Arlington County is under a Flood Watch tonight (Tuesday) due to the threat of flash flooding.

Rain that’s heavy at times could cause local streams and roadways to flood, forecasters say. The watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for Arlington, Alexandria, D.C., Fairfax County, Falls Church, and other parts of the Washington region.

…FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

* WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

* WHERE…Portions of DC, including the following , District of Columbia, Maryland, including the following areas, Charles and Prince Georges, and Virginia, including the following areas, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Central and Southeast Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park, Fairfax and King George. The greatest potential for flash flooding will be along and south of I-66 & US 50.

* WHEN…Until 11 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– Thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could have intense rain rates exceeding 2 inches per hour. If locally repetitive or prolonged thunderstorms develop, flash flooding could occur in flood prone urban and suburban areas.
