Irish pub Mattie and Eddie’s is expected to close next week at Westpost in Pentagon City.
The food-focused pub — which opened in 2021 and replaced Siné, another Irish pub — was a labor of love for chef, restaurateur and Dublin native Cathal Armstrong, who named the new establishment after his grandparents.
A tipster told ARLnow that staff was informed of the coming closure earlier this week. A restaurant representative said it would close this coming Wednesday.
“Yes it is closing down the 31st of July,” the representative said in a brief email to ARLnow. So far there’s no word on what prompted the closure. The pub has not posted on its social media accounts since April.
Those seeking a proper pour of their favorite Irish pint will not have to go too far after the pub’s closure. Nearby options include the recently expanded Celtic House on Columbia Pike and McNamara’s, which opened on 23rd Street S. in Crystal City in late 2019.
Westpost, formerly Pentagon Row, has seen considerable change in its restaurant lineup in the past few years. Among the most recent changes: nearby spot Bun’d Up started serving Korean street food in its back room, which was previously a mahjong-themed speakeasy, while Asia Bistro is planning to spin out its tea cafe before making way for Spanish restaurant El Mercat Bar de Tapas.
