Arlington and most of the D.C. area is now under both a Tornado Watch and a Flood Watch.

The Tornado Watch is in effect until 2 p.m. Friday while the Flood Watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Both were issued Thursday evening while the former Gulf Coast hurricane now labeled as Tropical Depression Debby makes its way north into Virginia.

Several inches of rain are expected over the next 24 hours or so, in addition to what’s already fallen today amid rounds of tropical showers. Periods of heavy rain could lead to localized flooding, though areas to the west are likely to see more severe impacts.

There is also a risk of tornados later tonight and Friday morning as Debby’s center approaches the D.C. area. A possible tornado already spawned in Montgomery County earlier this evening.
