Fresh, hibachi-style meals are coming to Bronson Bierhall’s patio this weekend. One caveat: the meals are for dogs.
The Ballston bar and patio at 4100 Fairfax Drive is hosting a live hibachi event for dogs at 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 1, on its outdoor patio. A grill and dog-friendly ingredients will be supplied by Bogey’s Mix, a new dog food company in Northern Virginia.
“My business partner, Zach … came up with the idea, I think, as a joke,” Bogey’s Mix co-founder Adam Totter told ARLnow. “And then we both looked at each other, and we’re like, ‘oh my God, this would be so fun.’ The dogs would love it.”
The first 50 dog owners to arrive Saturday will receive a free pack of the brand’s Turkey Feast Mode meal to bring home and try.
With patio space for about 100 patrons, water bowls and toys aplenty, Bronson Bierhall is something of a hub for dogs and their owners in Ballston. Since 2022, the bar has highlighted its community of four-legged patrons on Instagram @DogsOfBronson.
With the exception of service animals, dogs are only allowed in the outdoor dining area.
“They’ve got a supremely active group of dogs that come out for all the different dog events, so we thought that would be the perfect spot for it,” Totter said.
Bogey’s Mix launched operations last month out of a commercial kitchen in Leesburg. The small business aims to provide an affordable fresh food option for dog owners in Northern Virginia, offering regional subscriptions and delivery services.
Their meals prioritize a high protein content, with the top ingredients being turkey and eggs, followed by quinoa and vegetables like spinach and sweet potato.
“It’s our philosophy is that dogs are — they’re not wolves, but they used to be, so to speak,” Totter said.
Before co-founding Bogey’s, Zach Feldman spent two years preparing fresh meals at home for his boxer, Bogey. He had switched Bogey from dry kibble to refrigerated foods, but found the cost unattainable.
The price point for Bogey’s starts at $4.09 per day.
