ACPD: Scooter rider robbed, building lobby hammered, police cruiser struck

Two people were arrested and another is being sought after a trio of notable police incidents during the latter half of last week.

In the first incident, Arlington County police say a teen driving a stolen car northbound on I-395 tried to evade officers and struck a police cruiser, before striking two other cars and fleeing on foot.

More on the chase and the arrest, below, from an ACPD crime report.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING ON POLICE, 2025-03130175, NB I-395 at Boundary Channel Drive. At approximately 5:19 p.m. on March 13, police received an alert for a stolen vehicle traveling in the area of Shirlington Road and 24th Road S. A lookout was broadcast and responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect. A short time later, an officer observed the vehicle traveling northbound on I-395 in the area of Richmond Highway. Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop at Boundary Channel Drive during which the driver of the vehicle evaded officers, struck an occupied police cruiser and continued to drive. The officer did not sustain any injuries. The suspect then struck two additional vehicles traveling in the area, exited the suspect vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. The vehicles sustained property damage, however no injuries were reported by the occupants of the vehicles. The suspect ran across the southbound lanes of I-395 and following a foot pursuit, he was taken into custody. During the course of the investigation, the suspect, who was determined to be a juvenile in his teens, provided false personal identification information to officers and it was determined he did not possess a valid operator’s license. Burglarious tools were recovered and the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen. Petitions for the juvenile suspect were obtained for Malicious Wounding on Police, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Eluding, Hit and Run (x2), Identity Theft, Possession of Burglarious Tools and No Operator’s License.

Today’s crime report, meanwhile, recounts an incident from this past Friday afternoon in which a 53-year-old Arlington man allegedly took a hammer to the windows and walls of a residential building’s lobby near Columbia Pike.

ATTEMPTED MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2025-03140102, 1000 block of S. Wayne Street. At approximately 12:47 p.m. on March 14, police were dispatched to the report of a male suspect who had caused property damage to a residential building. Upon arrival, it was determined the suspect entered the building’s lobby and allegedly struck walls and glass doors with a hammer. The suspect, while in possession of the hammer, subsequently made threatening statements towards two victims before exiting the building. No injuries were reported. A responding officer located the suspect as he exited the building and with the assistance of additional officers, he was taken into custody. The suspect suffered a laceration during the incident and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Upon his release, [The suspect], 53, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Attempted Malicious Wounding, Assault and Battery, and Destruction of Property.

Finally, late Saturday night, a man riding an electric scooter near the Courthouse Metro station was reportedly knocked to the ground and robbed of his wallet by an unknown suspect who then fled the scene.

The man suffered serious injuries, according to ACPD.

ROBBERY, 2025-03150213, Clarendon Boulevard at N. Veitch Street. At approximately 11:09 p.m. on March 15, police were dispatched to the report of trouble unknown. Upon arrival, it was determined the victim was riding an electric scooter in the area when he was approached by the male suspect who struck him, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then stole the victim’s wallet before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by medics on scene before being transported to an area hospital. The suspect is described as an average to heavy-set unknown race male, wearing a dark hoodie and jeans. The investigation is ongoing.
