New ‘Daydrift’ cafe and bookstore planned in Crystal City

A new cafe and bookstore is in the works where Mah-Ze-Dahr closed earlier this year in Crystal City.

Daydrift is a new cafe, market and bookstore by Water Park food hall operator Episcope Hospitality. The business is setting up shop across from the park at 1550 Crystal Drive, according to a message posted in the storefront.

It will have books and coffee

  • “A café, market, and bookstore all in one, Daydrift is an outpost for fresh, nourishing ingredients and a slower pace,” a description on Episcope’s website reads.
  • The cafe will also offer a “thoughtfully sourced and simply prepared” menu of salads, bowls, tartines and smoothies.
  • Episcope Hospitality and property owner JBG Smith declined to comment.

It’s ‘coming soon’

  • That’s according to a blank Instagram profile for the new business. Episcope Hospitality’s website places the opening in “summer 2025.”
  • Daydrift is currently hiring for a cashier and barista role, according to restaurant industry website Culinary Agents.
