As Arlington’s fleet of snowplows rumbled to life after this weekend’s snowfall, the vehicles bore a new set of playful names submitted by local residents.
They’re just as pun-packed as last year’s.
This year’s plows offer up movie references like “Blizzard of Oz” and “The Big Leplowski,” musical allusions like “The Life of a Snowgirl” and “Achy Flakey Heart” and references to local locations such as “Clear-n-done,” “Frostlyn” and “Crystal City.”
Some of them appeared this weekend on Arlington’s live Snow Activity Map.
The county received over 2,500 submissions this year, which staff at the Department of Environmental Services whittled down to 45 names for county-owned plows and 15 for contracted plows, plus another 15 in case of additional contractor support.
