Mussel Bar & Grille in Ballston closes, reportedly for renovations

A Ballston seafood restaurant shuttered last week, at least temporarily, and will reportedly undergo some interior changes.

Mussel Bar & Grille announced on social media and in a storefront message that it has closed for renovations at 800 N. Glebe Road.

“A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this past year,” the restaurant posted on Facebook on Friday. “We’ll share updates here as we have them. In the meantime, happy holidays and a very happy new year.”

As of Monday morning, however, no construction permit applications associated with the space were posted on Arlington County’s permit portal.

RW Restaurant Group, which operates the eatery, did not respond to a request for comment.

Opened in 2013, the Belgian-inspired restaurant developed a following for its fresh seafood, including oysters, grilled salmon, charred octopus and, of course, mussels — available in varieties like white wine, Thai curry and mushrooms and bacon.

Non-seafood options on the menu include steak frites, chicken wings and linguini bolognese, plus a variety of wines, cocktails and Belgian beers.

Mussel Bar’s other location in Bethesda remains open.
