Top Arlington stories of 2025: #1-10

With the new year just hours away, we’re closing out 2025 with a roundup of ARLnow’s top 10 stories this year.

Representing a mix of fast-moving breaking coverage and stories only made possible through our team’s deep sourcing in this community, these stories offer a snapshot of an eventful year for Arlington and for this newsroom.

Arlington found itself at the center of a national tragedy at the beginning of 2025 when a military helicopter and a regional jet collided over Reagan National Airport, killing 67 people. ARLnow was one of the first outlets to cover that catastrophe the night of Jan. 29, with boots-on-the-ground coverage that informed readers of events as they happened.

While that incident dominated headlines and airwaves nationwide, other stories in ARLnow’s top 10 came to light only because of this outlet’s reporting. Our scoops ranged from the news that a Washington Capitals player had been arrested after an incident in Clarendon, to news that a top White House official was selling his North Arlington home following political activism there.

As recently as last week, another piece of exclusive coverage — a check-in with local theater groups that have been enjoying success amid turmoil at the Kennedy Center — cracked our top 10 late in the game.

Here are the stories that, more than any others, captured our readers’ attention in 2025. On behalf of the news team, thank you for reading.
