A long-awaited restaurant and bar in Virginia Square will officially open its doors today (Friday).
Richmond-based Wood & Iron will serve diners at new outpost at 3401 Fairfax Drive starting this afternoon, owner Steve Rogge confirmed to ARLnow.
The restaurant, which was announced in September 2024, had its ABC license approved yesterday. A diverse drink menu includes 20 different signature cocktails — which, along with some other drinks, are 50% off during the grand opening.

Most popular are Wood & Iron’s crush drinks, which feature fresh juice, simple syrup and a spirit, and come in flavors like orange, grapefruit and cherry limeade. The list is supplemented by 30 different draft beers, ranging from Michelob Ultra and Bud Light to brews from the Roseland, Va.-based Devils Backbone Brewing Company.
To eat, Wood & Iron builds off of traditional pub fare with bites like a jumbo Bavarian pretzel, loaded chicken Philly fries and a flatbread with goat cheese, caramelized onion and honey. Main courses focus on handhelds like burgers, wraps and other sandwiches, or chicken wings in 15 different varieties — including the waiver-required “Fire Dry Rub.”
Outside of the menu, Wood & Iron has nearly three dozen televisions in the interior and outdoor patio, ensuring that no Wizards basket, Capitals goal or Nationals home run goes missed.
Despite that, Rogge says the restaurant doesn’t lean solely on the appeal of a sports bar.
“It’s not as heavy on the traditional sports bar theme as you would expect,” Rogge previously told ARLnow. “While we will have a great view of TVs from every seat and it will be the perfect place to cheer on your team, we pride ourselves on being a restaurant that caters to everyone even when a game’s not on.”
Wood & Iron will open at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, and at 10 a.m. on weekends. It will close each day at 1:30 a.m.
