BREAKING: Investigations underway after pedestrians struck on Glebe Road, Carlin Springs Road

A man was killed and another person critically injured after two separate pedestrian struck incidents on a stormy Sunday night.

The first happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Carlin Springs Road and Columbia Pike, just over the Arlington border in Fairfax County. A man was struck by a Metrobus turning right onto Carlin Springs Road from Columbia Pike.

The man was pulled from under the bus by first responders and rushed to the VHC trauma center in Arlington but was pronounced dead. Fairfax County police and Metro Transit Police are on scene investigating the crash. Carlin Springs Road is closed in both directions.

The second crash happened a short time later, about two miles away, on S. Glebe Road at 14th Street S. in the Douglas Park neighborhood south of Columbia Pike.

Initial reports suggest that a senior citizen was struck by a vehicle near the intersection, then was found unresponsive in the roadway by first responders. They were also reportedly rushed to the VHC trauma center.

“ACPD is investigating a critical crash involving a pedestrian at S. Glebe Road at 14th St. S.,” Arlington County police said via social media just before 10 p.m. “[The d]river of the striking vehicle remained on scene. Expect continued police activity in the area.”

So far, there’s no word on the exact circumstances of the crash.
