National Dog Day brings pet-friendly merch to Rosslyn next week

A pop-up book sale, live music and an event honoring furry friends are all coming to the Rosslyn Farmers Market over the next week.

A book sale by Turning the Page — a nonprofit that hosted another event in Crystal City last month — will take place today (Wednesday) from noon to 6 p.m. at 1800 N. Lynn Street. The event promises over 3,000 gently used books, plus CDs, DVDs and vinyl records.

Richmond-based singer Clay Mottley will perform for the final two hours, playing covers from artists like Billy Joel and James Taylor along with original work.

The farmers market will host another event in honor of National Dog Day on Wednesday, Aug. 26. The Rosslyn BID is calling it “Dog Days of Summer.”

“Friendly dogs are welcome to attend with their owners and must remain leashed throughout the event,” Rosslyn BID spokesperson Jenna Sobray told ARLnow.

The event will feature a booths from Snarfies, selling “one-ingredient” dog treats made with ingredients such as lamb and chicken, and Dogma Dog Bakery, which sells dog food, treats and toys for dogs and cats. Playful Pack, a dog daycare company with facilities in Virginia, Maryland and D.C., will have an informational booth.

The Rosslyn Farmers Market typically runs from May to October on Wednesdays from 2-6 p.m. Markets around the D.C. area are chock-full of summer produce right now, including vegetables like tomatoes, eggplants, corn and summer squash and fruits such as plums, peaches, melons and figs.

Rosslyn also hosts vendors selling French pastries, fresh bread and Mediterranean dishes like grape leaves and hummus.

In addition to vendors, the market will host local musicians Willie Williams on Sept. 2 and Jessica Allossery on Sept. 16.
