Sprouts supermarket opening next week on Langston Blvd

A new grocery store is opening on Langston Blvd next week, replacing a Giant supermarket that closed more than two years ago.

Sprouts Farmers Market will host a grand opening in the Lyon Village Shopping Center beginning on Friday, Sept. 25 and continuing through the weekend. Celebrations will include free tote bags, food samples and discounts.

“Stepping into Sprouts, shoppers can expect an experience rooted in freshness, quality and wellness — with delicious discoveries down every aisle,” Sprouts said in a press release.

The store promises fresh produce, high-quality meat, wellness products and bulk dry goods such as coffee, rice, nuts and trail mix. The location will also offer $5 sushi specials every Wednesday, grab-and-go sandwiches starting at $5 each and “wellness bowls” starting at $9.

The location will be open daily from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

Sprouts is offering a discount of 20%, up to $20 off, to customers who sign up for its rewards program and shop at the store during the opening weekend. The store is also holding a raffle to win a $500 Sprouts gift card.

Sprouts Farmers Market has around 500 locations nationwide, but only four other Virginia stores in Leesburg, Manassas, Herndon and Haymarket. The Langston Blvd store is located about a 20-minute walk from both the Clarendon and the Courthouse Metro stations.

The store’s ribbon-cutting celebration will take place at 6:45 a.m. on Sept. 25, and doors will open at 7 a.m.

On the first day, the first 400 customers will receive a long-stemmed rose courtesy of Falcon Farms Floral, and the first 200 will receive a reusable tote bag. Another 200 reusable totes will be given out on the second day.

Sprouts has been around since 2002, aiming to sell products with few artificial ingredients at affordable prices. The company works with local farmers to provide fresh produce.

Through the company’s food rescue program, this new store will donate groceries that are no longer fit for sale but are still edible to the Capital Area Food Bank, according to the press release.

Sprouts Farmers Market replaces a Giant that closed at the Lyon Village Shopping Center in March 2024 after 60 years.
