An Arlington writer, conservationist and tour guide has launched a campaign to challenge U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D) as a Republican.

Luke Nathan Phillips, a self-described “bipartisan activist” and “avid outdoorsman,” seeks to take on Arlington’s longtime congressman with a platform focused on crossing political divides and protecting public land.

Feedback sought on 47-unit townhouse project off of Langston Blvd

Arlington County is collecting feedback on a plan to build 47 townhomes at a site currently approved for a six-story assisted living facility.

The rows of three- and four-bedroom townhomes on a 2.8-acre property at 2134 N. Taylor Street would replace a proposal for a 175-unit senior living center that the County Board approved in April 2020.

Arlington’s top prosecutor fires back at House committee over allegations of ‘political bias’

Arlington’s commonwealth’s attorney is returning fire to the House Judiciary Committee for questioning her handling of an ongoing criminal investigation, accusing it of overstepping its authority.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti has declined to provide numerous documents that Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) requested regarding an investigation of a local activist critical of the Trump administration. Arguing that many of these documents are confidential, she suggested that the request is “an improper incursion” into Virginia’s sovereignty and her own authority over local cases.

Miyares attacks APS transgender policy in filing signed by coalition of GOP attorneys general

Virginia’s attorney general and 20 of his counterparts in other states are weighing in on a lawsuit over Arlington Public Schools’ policies around transgender students.

Outgoing Attorney General Jason Miyares and other Republican officials jointly filed a brief last Tuesday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, arguing that the U.S. Department of Education was right to label APS and Fairfax County Public Schools as “high risk” and place restrictions on their funding.

Brine trucks deployed in Arlington ahead of possible winter weather tonight

Brine trucks are out on the roads in Arlington ahead of expected winter weather this evening.

The National Weather Service predicts snowfall throughout much of Northern Virginia as a cold front tracks through the region beginning this evening (Monday). As of this afternoon, a small amount of accumulation is expected immediately to the west of Arlington, including in Falls Church.

Holiday wreaths are returning to the graves of fallen service members in Arlington National Cemetery next month.

This year’s Wreaths Across America Day is on Saturday, Dec. 13. Beginning at 8 a.m., the annual event is expected to bring crowds around the cemetery as volunteers lay wreaths at thousands of headstones and columbarium niches.

Expected ‘Thanksgiving Eve’ crowds prompt road closures in Clarendon tonight

In expectation of large crowds in the run-up to Thanksgiving, a pair of road closures will be in effect in Clarendon tonight (Wednesday).

The Arlington County Police Department is closing off Wilson Blvd and Clarendon Blvd between N. Highland Street and Washington Blvd “to accommodate the expected increase in nightlife activity.”

The former Key Bridge Marriott building is no more, leaving behind a void on a piece of prime real estate in Rosslyn.

Virtually nothing remains of the notorious closed hotel at 1401 Langston Blvd, which began demolition in February after being declared a “public nuisance” in May 2024.

Thanksgiving brings closures across Arlington on Thursday and Friday

The Thanksgiving holiday will bring closures to some Arlington County offices and services on Thursday and Friday.

All public libraries in Arlington will be closed on both days, as will almost all community centers and administrative offices at the parks department. The Long Bridge Aquatics and Fitness Center will be open from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, however.
