A new bus route could provide Shirlington-area residents and workers with rush-hour service between D.C.’s Metro Center and the Alexandria/Fairfax line.

The new line, which would run via Beauregard Street, Mark Center, Southern Towers and the Shirlington Bus Station, is among 15 projects totaling $39.5 million that the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission is currently considering.

‘Fyre Festival’ Vibes at Trump Event — “Attendees of the event also contended that the hosts acted unprofessionally. Tesla Protest Continues — “Word was passed among the Tesla boycotters earlier this week not to tread on the Arlington Tesla’s dirt surface because the company was laying new mulch. So on week 14 of the boycott actions the line stayed off the new mulch out of respect for the business operation. Beyer Wants Khan Suri Out of Lockup — “Rep. Plans to rebuild a Clarendon office building as an eight-story, 309-unit multifamily building are about to reach the Arlington County Board.

Developer Carr Properties aims to raze a nearly 40-year-old office building at 3033 Wilson Blvd and replace it with a development called Clarendon Square.


Helicopters flying near Reagan National Airport caused flight diversions yesterday (Sunday) and Thursday.

The first incident involved an Army Black Hawk helicopter taking a “scenic route around the Pentagon,” according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It caused two commercial aircraft to cancel landings and has drawn the ire of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin said on Friday that he would trim Virginia’s budget by $900 million in light of next year’s tax revenue projections, which could decrease as the White House’s reshaping of federal spending spurs economic uncertainty in the state.


The Arlington County Police Department will begin hosting quarterly “community meetings” starting this month.

At the meetings, police will be “covering community issues, crime prevention tips and addressing quality of life concerns,” ACPD announced in a press release. Topics include the following.


The Falls Church City Council marked the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon last week with a celebration of the city’s Vietnamese-American community.

“Thank you for being part of Falls Church,” Mayor Letty Hardi said at Monday’s Council meeting, attended by several dozen community representatives.

New Proposal for Pike Property — “Plans to redevelop a strip mall along Columbia Pike are back in the works after a hiatus. Toll Brothers filed an application with Arlington County earlier this week to construct a six-story residential building with 262 apartments, 311 parking spaces and approximately 16,000 square feet of ground-floor retail at 2601 Columbia Pike.” [UrbanTurf]

Missing Arlington Man — “Charles Sayles, 77, was last seen in the 3400 block of Washington Boulevard, Arlington County police said Wednesday morning. The location is a few blocks from the Virginia Square-GMU Metro station, near the Clarendon area. Police said Sayles is considered a critically missing person because of health or mental health concerns… Sayles is a blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter who released albums starting in the ‘70s and has performed with Pete Seeger.” [NBC 4]

Car Towed With Kid Inside — “A 6-year-old child was inside a car that was towed Saturday morning, according to police. Officers responded to a dispute at the 4100 block of S. Four Mile Run Drive at 9:11 a.m. Saturday. Police found that a car was towed from private property with the child still inside, according to the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD). Officers found the child at the tow company, Advanced Towing, nearby.” [WJLA]

Fox Tests Positive for Rabies — “The Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) said that at around noon on April 25, Arlington County Animal Control removed an injured fox in the 6000 block of 22nd Street North. AWLA said the fox then tested positive for rabies. Anyone who came in contact with the fox or may have pets who did, needs to call Animal County Animal Control at (703) 931-9241.” [DC News Now]

Sentencing for Fentanyl Trafficker — “An Alexandria man was sentenced yesterday to 14 years in prison for distributing fentanyl… Page was convicted twice previously on drug charges in Arlington County. On March 14, 2008, Page was convicted of distribution of cocaine and the distribution of an imitation controlled substance. On July 16, 2018, Page was convicted of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.” [U.S. DOJ]

Intra-Arlington Acquisition — “AeroVironment Inc., a Crystal City defense contractor best known for its autonomous military drones, has closed its $4.1 billion acquisition of Arlington peer BlueHalo LLC and is retiring both company names in favor of a new brand: AV Inc. An 18-year-old Arlington man and several teen boys have been charged in connection to a pair of linked incidents earlier this week, including a shot fired near Ballston.

Around noon on Tuesday a male victim was robbed of clothes in the stairwell of a parking garage on the 600 block of N. Glebe Road — which corresponds with the Ballston mall garage. The man and two teens were later arrested and face several charges, according to Arlington County police.


A federal hearing for a Rosslyn man detained over his support for Palestine attracted dozens of advocates yesterday (Thursday), including U.S. Rep. Don Beyer.

At a U.S. District Court hearing in Alexandria, the Trump administration sought to have Indian citizen Badar Khan Suri’s case transferred from the Eastern District of Virginia to Texas. Khan Suri has not been accused of any crimes but is currently in custody over allegations of “spreading Hamas propaganda.”
