A proposed new residential building on the western edge of Ballston’s urban core has drawn concerns about its height.

But in a twist, it isn’t that the planned building is viewed as too tall. Some in the public and serving on the site-plan review committee (SPRC) evaluating the development plan see it as not tall enough.

Fresh off a successful first year in D.C., a family-operated Ethiopian restaurant lauded as one of the best in the region is planning a potential new Arlington location.

Eatopia Eatery, which The Washington Post recently named one of the region’s best Ethiopian restaurants, has been searching for an Arlington space since October, owner Surafel Gizachew told ARLnow. It would be the restaurant’s second outpost, joining the U Street location that debuted last April.

The new Andy’s Pizza in Virginia Square won’t open in late March, as previously projected — but it is coming “soon-ish.”

That’s according to a handwritten message posted below the restaurant’s newly installed signage at 901 N. Pollard Street.

Arlington has once again ranked among the best “cities” to live in the United States — and an Arlington neighborhood stands at No. 1.

The county has maintained its No. 4 spot in the 2025 Niche ranking of the nation’s most liveable neighborhoods. That’s the same spot it held in 2024, but is below its No. 2 ranking in 2023.

Eagle-eyed Arlingtonians might have noticed that a Dominion Energy substation in the Ballston area is called, strangely enough, the Clarendon substation, while it’s vice versa for another substation down the street.

A substation is a part of an electrical grid that enables electricity to be transmitted at different voltages. Dominion Energy’s Ballston substation at 3241 Wilson Blvd is near Clarendon, just west of Northside Social.

A large, publicly traded company has landed in Arlington, noting the convenient location and nearby amenities of its new spot in Ballston.

Argan, Inc. — which pulled in $257 million in revenue in the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2025 — has relocated its headquarters to Two Liberty Center at 4075 Wilson Blvd.

Even more Arlington office space could become apartments after plans for another adaptive reuse project in Ballston were filed last month.

The owner of 4100 Fairfax Drive, the 13-story tower home to Bronson Bierhall, proposes to convert the structure into an apartment building with 269 housing units. Site plans call for 186 one-bedroom apartments, 66 two-bedroom apartments and 17 studios.

Three people were arrested in Clarendon early this morning after a bar fight prompted a large police response.

An officer was flagged down by security at Don Tito shortly before 2 a.m. Monday, according to scanner traffic. The officer then requested backup to help “separate a couple of females inside.” That was soon followed by a more urgent request for more officers.

A new Nepalese restaurant is opening next week in Ballston.

Himalayan Wild Yak is set to open at 1010 N. Glebe Road, where the Booeymonger sandwich shop closed last year. The family-owned restaurant specializes in dishes made with yak, a cultural staple comparable to bison meat, owner Dipraj Magar told ARLnow.

The annual hockey match between federal lawmakers and lobbyists is happening in Arlington this month.

The 2025 Congressional Hockey Challenge is scheduled to take place at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Ballston on Tuesday, March 25.
