Gwenie’s Pastries x Lapu Lapu, owned and operated by acclaimed culinary sibling duo Stella and Javier Fernandez, offers breakfast and baked goods under one roof at 1417 S. Fern Street. It is the first brick-and-mortar location in Virginia for both Maryland-based businesses.

Efforts to combat retail theft in Pentagon City led to the arrest of more than a dozen suspects in a single day last month.

The Arlington County Police Department’s “focused enforcement” effort on Aug. 22 resulted in 15 suspects being taken into custody, with charges ranging from petit larceny and receiving stolen property to narcotics violations.

A D.C. woman has been arrested and charged with a trio of thefts from Arlington stores.

The thefts date back to October 2024. Police did not identify the businesses involved but they occurred on two blocks, in Pentagon City and Rosslyn, that correspond with the location of Target stores.

Takagi Coffee has inked a deal at 721 15th Street S., in between Tend and Yunnan by Potomac Noodle House. The cafe applied for a commercial building permit last Friday.

Ember Kitchen and Spirits is targeting a winter opening at 1301 S. Joyce Street, where Irish gastropub Mattie and Eddie’s closed last year. A massive proposed expansion to Pentagon City’s RiverHouse development concluded a key phase of the county’s public feedback process with generally solid reviews.

“It’s hard to argue with new housing and park space on underutilized parking lots,” said Kateri Garcia, who represents the Arlington Ridge Civic Association on the site-plan review committee (SPRC) that recently concluded five meetings on the development plan.

El Mercat Bar de Tapas plans to open its second location in mid-August at 1301 S. Joyce Street, where Asia Bistro closed last fall. From offerings to ambience, owner and veteran chef George Rodrigues hopes to make diners feel like they’re really in Spain.

Pentagon City’s RiverHouse project is collecting public feedback on a planned one-acre park between S. Lynn Street and S. Joyce Street.

The park, which would be developed in two phases, is meant to facilitate pedestrian traffic and serve as a “vibrant gathering place.” Respondents have until Sunday to submit feedback on the final draft design.

Pentagon City restaurant 1983 Chinese Cuisine is set to “soft open” this Thursday, serving up traditional Cantonese dim sum at the Westpost shopping center.

The restaurant will start accepting customers, but General Manager Cuong Vo says the food and menu won’t be a finished product — they’re looking for feedback from the public before hosting a “grand opening.”
