A teen girl is facing charges after police say she threw food at an officer in Pentagon City.

The incident happened this past Friday around 5:15 p.m. at the Pentagon City Metro station. The girl started throwing food at an officer who stopped her male companion for fare evasion, according to an Arlington County Police Department crime report.

A stricter policy on banning riders from the Metro system has some leaders optimistic about better safety in Northern Virginia.

Arlington County police are investigating after gunfire rang out on Columbia Pike late Saturday night.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. near the Liberty gas station on the 2300 block of Columbia Pike. Two people got into a dispute, leading to one getting of their car and firing a shot at the other person in their vehicle, police said.

The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City was shut down Saturday evening after a series of large fights led to a massive, multi-agency police response.

The fights started breaking out among groups of teens and mall security around 6 p.m., according to scanner traffic. By 7 p.m., additional fights in the food court started escalating and all available officers were urgently dispatched to the mall.
