The money is about to start flowing, but the details remain a work in progress on redevelopment of a key portion of Reagan National Airport.

The board of directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) last month agreed to spend up to $108 million over an eight-year span for architectural and engineering services in preparation for redeveloping Terminal 1 and adjacent areas at the airport.

Roughly 150 employees at Reagan National Airport are holding informational pickets this week as they pursue the right to organize a union.

The employees, who work across four concessions operated by Master ConcessionAir, were scheduled to picket from 10-11:30 a.m. today (Monday) as well as from 1-3 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) on the airport’s ticketing level, just outside of Door 6.

A new donation program at Reagan National Airport is providing local charities with unopened and gently used toiletries that would otherwise be thrown away.

Since April, the “Donate Don’t Discard” initiative has collected 2,913 items that failed to comply with TSA restrictions and would otherwise have gone to the landfill. Instead, products such as toothpaste, lotion, hair gel and sunscreen now go to D.C.-area charities that distribute products to unhoused people, domestic violence survivors and other people in need of basic necessities.

A Silver Spring woman is the latest to face fines and a criminal charge after TSA officers intercepted a loaded gun in her carry-on luggage at Reagan National Airport.

The incident occurred this past Thursday, Aug. 8, when Transportation Security Administration screeners discovered a 9mm firearm loaded with six bullets, including one in the chamber, during a routine security check.

National Airport finally has an American Express Centurion Lounge.

The lounge officially opened today (Wednesday) in Terminal 2 near the South Security Checkpoint. It has floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the airfield and the Potomac, art from local artists, a dining menu created by three separate acclaimed chefs, and a wine and cocktail menu customized for the D.C. area.

Five new long-haul flights are coming to Reagan National Airport. It’s now up to the U.S. Department of Transportation to decide which ones.

Eight airlines met Monday’s deadline to apply for the daily roundtrip flights, which will be exempt from the airport’s general 1,250-mile service perimeter. That follows the May passage of an FAA reauthorization bill that allowed the five new flights, to the strenuous objection of local elected officials concerned about delays and safety.

Arlington is poised to accept $18 million in funding for a pedestrian bridge connecting Crystal City to Reagan National Airport.

A funding allocation from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority is slated for consideration at an Arlington County Board meeting this Saturday. Construction on the project, dubbed the CC2DCA multimodal connection, is expected to begin in Fiscal Year 2028.
