A sex offender is facing numerous charges after he allegedly exposed himself inside the girls’ locker room at the Washington-Liberty High School pool.

The incident on Monday, Oct. 21 is coming to light now and receiving national attention after WJLA reported that Richard Kenneth Cox was allowed to access the girl’s locker room at the W-L aquatics center, which is open to the public for certain portions of the day, after identifying as a transgender.

With two straight significant victories, the Washington-Liberty Generals boys basketball team has entered the conversation as a contender in the Liberty District.

The Generals snapped a three-game losing streak with league wins over the host Langley Saxons, 65-57, then the visiting Wakefield Warriors, 58-44, on consecutive nights.

The eighth annual MLK Day of Service this Saturday, Jan. 18 will host volunteer projects supporting over 20 Volunteer Arlington partners.

The Washington-Liberty Generals have a big rest of the week in girls Liberty District basketball with games against two top league rivals in the Langley Saxons and McLean Highlanders.

The Generals enter those high-school contests with an 8-4 overall record and a 2-0 district mark.

The Wakefield Warriors and Yorktown Patriots won in boys high-school basketball action Friday night (Jan. 10) to remain undefeated at 2-0 in the Liberty District.

The Wakefield boys got 16 points from Keyon Tiggle and 10 each from Jeremiah Poole and Koopar Odar in their 55-51 home victory over the McLean Highlanders.

A substitute teacher has been charged with taking indecent liberties with a high school student.

Timothy McGhee, a 47-year-old Alexandria resident, had been working as a substitute at Washington-Liberty High School. He also previously worked at some local churches and unsuccessfully ran for state Senate in Arlington and Alexandria in 2011.

Some high-school basketball teams in Arlington won’t have much time to practice next week. Instead, the varsity squads will be busy playing games.

The Wakefield Warriors girls and boys teams each have four games scheduled from Monday (Jan. 13) to Friday (Jan. 17).

Although some events were postponed because of the recent snowstorm, the sports schedule for varsity high-school teams in Arlington is back in full force for the coming week, weather-permitting.

The action begins Friday (Jan. 10) with a full slate of basketball games and swim and dive meets, continues Jan. 11 with a variety of sports, then every day next week is scheduled to be full of games and events.

A significant milestone occurred when the Washington-Liberty Generals won their one of three games during the George Long Holiday boys basketball tournament.

W-L’s victory over the Osbourn Eagles at Wakefield High School was the 350th of Bobby Dobson’s 30-plus-season high-school career as the head coach of the Generals. Dobson began as W-L’s head coach during the 1993-94 campaign.

The opening month of the girls basketball season was an accomplished and championship time for the Washington-Liberty Generals.

In December, the high-school team compiled a 7-4 overall record, including a 3-0 mark to win the Boltball Holiday Invitational tournament Dec. 26-28 at Lightridge High School in Aldie.
