The power went out as winds whipped up in advance of a brief period of snow around 7:15 p.m. Via Twitter, one resident reported the sound of a likely transformer explosion.
The power outage is affecting residents around Nauck and other areas around S. Glebe Road, south of Columbia Pike in Arlington, and around W. Glebe Road in Alexandria. Residents of Fairlington and other nearby neighborhoods reported that power was flickering around the start of the outage but quickly came back on.

Forecasters are warning that a strong cold front could bring snow squalls and even thundersnow to the area tonight (Saturday).
Expect dangerous, rapidly-changing conditions outside as snow, high wind and bitter cold push in from the west.
Arlington County and the surrounding D.C. area is under a Wind Chill Advisory this morning and a High Wind Watch starting Saturday night.
The National Weather Service says frigid temperatures — 15 degrees as of 7:30 a.m. — combined with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour will make being outside potentially hazardous this morning.

Body Discovered Near DCA — A woman’s body was discovered near Reagan National Airport over the weekend. The body was found in the water around where Four Mile Run flows into the Potomac. [WJLA]
An approaching cold front will bring the potential for flooding and damaging winds, according to forecasters. Some higher-elevation areas to our west are under a wind advisory starting at 6:00 tonight.

Wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are expected to combine with temperatures between 14 and 21 degrees for a bitterly cold Friday. Meanwhile, snow is currently moving in to the area, as forecasters are calling for about an inch of accumulation in Arlington through Friday morning.
A cold front will bring high winds, heavy rain and possible thunderstorms tonight.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Arlington and the D.C. region and Arlington County just issued the following alert.
