Help Name Stations Along Upcoming Transitway

As the county finalizes its design for the Crystal City Potomac Yard transitway, it’s looking for public input on station names.

The project will enhance bus service to accommodate recent and upcoming developments in the area. Dedicated bus lanes are planned along Crystal Drive, S. Clark Street and S. Bell Street. During the first phase, seven new stops will be added along the route, in addition to the existing one at the Crystal City Metro station. Eventually, the plan is for the project to expand to the Pentagon City Metro station and south to the Braddock Road Metro station in Alexandria.

The locations of the new stations are already set, but you can help name them. The survey allows you to vote for suggested names or fill in your own ideas. To participate in the survey, click here. It will be available until November 10.

Let’s name Stop D = Crystal City Overground. Who’s with me?

    • Thes

      That’s pretty clever.

What’s with all the “Gateways”? “I get on at the South Gateway, not the Crystal Gateway or the Potomac Gateway. Then I hop off at the Eastern Gateway. I missed my stop yesterday and had to walk all the way from Western Gateway.”

OMG… this is going to be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!1!

One stop should be Sodom, one Gomorrah and one Caligula’s Rome. Someone else can decide which is which.

Please tell me the bus will actually continue into the Potomac Yard shopping area and does not abruptly stop at the county line before turning around.

    • Glebe Roader

I will NOT tell you what you wan to hear because it is NOT true.

I think it’ll continue farther at a later date. Right now it looks like it’s going to abruptly stop in the middle of the shopping center no one goes to with the underground/mole-people Harris-Teeter.

starting at the bottom and heading north
    1. Eclipse or Alimentos Sótano
    2. 33rdStreet or Campo Grande
    3. Crystal Drive or Centro de Empleo
    4. VRE or No hay Bastante
(seriously why is this not AT the VRE station??)
    5. Crystal City Metro
    6. 23rd Street/Crystal City Restaurant or Cruz en la Luz
    7. Olde Crystale Citye or Buenos Empleos del Hotel

Why doesn’t this go to the new park either?

    • Arlingtron

I agree. Why not go to the new Long Bridge Park. Is that going to be another underutilized park trapped between transit infrastructure? I am referring to the “Gateway whatever” park in Rosslyn. Seems to only folks who can get to it are homeless people.

And since this transit route stops short of Potomac Yards makes it useless at the south end too.

I also agree that a stop should be in front of the VRE entrance.

Not very fancy but the stop names should be the cross street. Another suggestion would be famous Arlingtonians like the rest stops on the NJ Turnpike are after famous New Jersians (or is it Jersyites?). You can also name them after communities destroyed nearby to accommodate progress.

  • Stop with the “Gateway” stuff already, please.
