A new high-end sushi restaurant appears to be coming to Pentagon City.

The realty management company Rappaport announced on its website that the creators behind Gyu Shige Japanese BBQ & Bar in Fairfax’s Mosaic District have leased about 2,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space below the Sage at National Landing, a 306-unit multifamily building at 480 11th Street S.

Omacase Japanese Sushi derives its name from a unique spelling of “omakase,” a Japanese term for “chef’s choice.” It is expected to open early next year, per the announcement. Seating will be reservation-only.

A spokesperson for LCOR, the developer behind Sage, told the Washington Business Journal that they anticipate high demand for an upscale sushi restaurant in the area and are targeting higher-end clientele.

Located at 525 14th Street S. near Amazon’s HQ2, Omacase is the latest in a string of high-end restaurants to open in the area within the last year. Among them are the gourmet diner Surreal, Peter Chang’s just-opened NiHao in Crystal City, and upscale gastropub Makers Union, which opened late last year on the ground floor of HQ2.

Rappaport did not respond to a request for more information as of publication time.
