An eight-story apartment building could be replacing an aging Clarendon office building, where a new restaurant just opened.
A development application for 3033 Wilson Blvd, filed last week by Carr Properties, calls for 312 units of housing ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments. The building across from the Clarendon Metro station would have a parking garage with 344 spaces, plus almost 7,000 square feet of retail space.
Renderings depict housing sitting atop an unnamed cafe with a patio area. Láylí Mediterranean opened in this ground-floor space last month in the former Bar Ivy space — but it’s unclear what redevelopment would mean for the new restaurant.
According to the Washington Business Journal, Carr Properties proposes “demolishing an obsolete building” which “faces many structural and economic challenges that prohibit maintaining the office use.”
A spokesperson for Láylí had “no update” on how development might impact the establishment. Carr Properties did not return a request for comment by publication time.
In May, a tipster told ARLnow that the office building, constructed in 1987 and also known as Clarendon Square, would be torn down as part of a residential redevelopment.
“The commercial building at 3033 Wilson Blvd is being demolished and replaced with residential,” the tipster said. “Tenants were given notice that leases would be cut short. The UPS store’s last day is around June 22, 2024 and business mailbox customers were sent a notice.”
The Clarendon UPS Store did indeed close last month. Láylí announced plans to open at 3033 Wilson Blvd in March and last month received County Board approval to host live entertainment.
