About an inch of snow fell in Arlington between Friday night and the early morning hours of Saturday.
Most main roads around the county have now been cleared as of 9:30 a.m., but many side streets remain snowcovered. Crews are now working on those local streets, while residents and businesses are expected to shovel their sidewalks within 24 hours.
“Up to an inch of light, fluffy flakes overnight,” Arlington’s Dept. of Environmental Services said on social media this morning. “A quick cleanup for swifties who already cleared sidewalks earlier. Crews remain out and will soon get help from temps above freezing, sun and lingering salt.”
After an extended sub-freezing stretch, today’s expected high temperature is 34. It should get up to 36 on Sunday.
Trash, recycling and organics pickup today — Friday routes, delayed a day — has been cancelled, meanwhile, due to poor road conditions where the county’s waste collection contractor is based, according to DES.
Curbside trash, recycling, and organics collection for today (regular Friday routes) has been canceled due to hazardous road conditions around our contractor’s base of operations west of Arlington. We apologize for the inconvenience. More: https://t.co/JnEqpQIIgm pic.twitter.com/yahKvUYRdp
