A Tex-Mex and Latin-inspired restaurant hopes to open in Crystal City sometime early this spring.
La Posada, a new concept by veteran restaurateur Julian Giraldo, is in development at 320 23rd Street S., on the ground floor of Quimby on 23rd apartments.
It will offer ‘iconic’ Latin American cuisine
- Giraldo plans to serve Mexican comfort foods and “masterful creations enhanced with iconic items from other cuisines around Latin America.”
- Teased menu items include an empanada trio honoring Colombia, Chile and Mexico; lobster rosarito and lechon al horno, or roasted pork with beans and rice.
- The restaurant promises a vibrant, casual atmosphere with seating for up to 150 people.
Posada is more than a name
- In some Latin American communities, the word “posada” evokes a cozy night spent with loved ones enjoying a warm meal, Giraldo said.
- It’s also Giraldo’s grandmother’s maiden name. “Her love for cooking and bringing the family together around feasts of homemade food, lovingly prepared, has been a memory I’ve anchored my entire food-service career around,” he said.
- Giraldo brings 20 years experience as a former general manager at Franco Zeppi Italian Restaurant in Baltimore and a D.C.-area restaurant consultant.
More eateries to come at 320 23rd Street S.
- Dolan Uyghur expects to open another location there soon.
- Meanwhile, Asian fusion eatery and karaoke spot Lantern Restaurant and Bar is currently hiring, according to storefront messages.
