A Turkish restaurant near Ballston closed due to a kitchen fire yesterday (Monday) but intends to open today.
Multiple fire trucks arrived at Istanbul Grill around 1 p.m. yesterday after a reported structure fire at 4617 Wilson Blvd.
The blaze began as a stove fire that “spread to the walls,” preliminary reports suggest. Firefighters could be seen on the restaurant’s roof, though the blaze appeared to be restricted to the inside.
Later scanner traffic said that the fire was confined to the restaurant’s range hood system and that there was “no need to open up the roof.”
No damage was visible on the outside of the establishment and an employee told ARLnow that it planned to reopen this morning.
The restaurant, which opened in the former El Ranchero storefront, has been serving Turkish dishes since 2018.
The brainchild of Turkey native Turgut Yiğit, Istanbul Grill offers a variety of kebabs, wraps, salads and other traditional fare. The restaurant is open daily for lunch starting at 11:30 a.m., serving diners until 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends.
