A Columbia Pike pie shop is closing after next week, with plans to relocate and reopen by early next month.
Acme Pie Co. plans to close its doors at 2803 Columbia Pike sometime after Pi Day on Friday, March 14. The shop will relocate nearby on the Pike, with a goal of reopening during the first week of April, owner Sol Schott told ARLnow.
Acme is moving to 2406 Columbia Pike
- The bakery is moving where the Columbia Pike Deli closed in January after opening across the street from Penrose Apartments less than a year before.
- Before closing, the shop will offer a $3.14 pie slice special on Pi Day, with flavors like blueberry lemon curd, key lime and sour cherry.
- Schott is shooting for an April 1 re-opening date. He promises it’s “not as an April Fool’s Day thing.”
The pie shop spent 12 years at the current address
- Acme has sold pies at its current storefront for six years. Before that, Schott baked pies in the Twisted Vines Bottleshop and Bistro’s kitchen for several years.
- The bakery is also home to the Pinball Basement, an arcade that opened last year. Schott said the new location will also have pinball machines.
- The business will close operations during relocation.
The Elkins Building is slated for redevelopment
- Permits to redevelop the retail strip with a seven-story housing complex received approval from the Arlington County Board in December.
- Plans call for 88 new housing units and 6,593 square feet of retail space.
- Built in 1941, the Elkins Building currently houses the Art & Framing Club, Sicilian Pizza and Urban Pet Paws dog grooming.
