A new cafe in a historic Falls Church building is expected to open in two weeks.
Little Falls Cafe, a project by the founders of Pupatella, has set an early May opening date in a renovated building at 106 Little Falls Street, co-owner Anastasiya Algarme told ARLnow. It plans to offer European fare with a colorful, vintage interior full of thrifted decorations.
Crepes are on the menu
- Savory buckwheat crepes, also called galettes, will come filled with meat, eggs, vegetables and cheese.
- Little Falls also plans to serve refreshments like coffee and cremolato, a non-dairy Italian dessert similar to granita that is flavored with fruit and nuts.
- Drinks will include regionally sourced spirits and alcoholic ciders, a traditional accompaniment to galettes.
Little Falls plans to use local ingredients
- The new cafe will source buckwheat from Locke’s Mill, a historic gristmill in Berryville.
- The Falls Church City Farmer’s Market, located nearby at 300 Park Avenue, will also be a great resource, Algarme said.
- “Everything is going to be seasonal and local,” Algarme said. “I’m going to try really hard to only get my supplies from the farmer’s market.”
Founders are decorated restaurateurs
- Algarme and husband Enzo Algarme are best known for their Ballston-born Neapolitan pizzeria, Pupatella.
- The pizza chain, now with 11 D.C.-area locations, was once featured on a list of the best artisan pizza chains in the world.
Once open, the new cafe will have breakfast and lunch service, with an aperitivo hour from 4-7 p.m.
