Five Guys has made a triumphant return to the Columbia Pike location where the hamburger franchise got its start 39 years ago.
About a dozen customers lined up outside Westmont Apartments to be the first ones inside the burger joint, which opened for business at 11 a.m. today (Monday). It’s on the same spot where Five Guys opened its very first location in a former strip mall in 1986.
It’s located at 3263 Columbia Pike
- Founder Jerry Murrell opened the first Five Guys at the Westmont Shopping Center. It was known for using Idaho potatoes and buns from Brenner’s Bakery, an Arlington bakery that closed in 2001.
- Although the Pike location closed in 1998, the restaurant had expanded across the D.C. area and began franchising in 2002.
- Today, Five Guys is headquartered in Alexandria and has over 1,800 locations worldwide.
Burgers and hotdogs are on the menu
- The new location offers typical Five Guys fare: burgers, all-beef hotdogs and twice-cooked french fries.
- The walls are lined with newspaper and magazine clips about Five Guys over the years, including an ARLnow story from 2022.
- The restaurant has two touch-screen soda machines and Five Guys’ signature complimentary peanuts to snack on by the cash register.
