Panera Bread plans fall opening in Crystal City

Panera Bread is coming to Crystal City.

The fast-casual chain known for its soups, salads and sandwiches has confirmed plans to open at 2450 Crystal Drive. Construction has started in the vacant retail bay next to Navy Federal Credit Union, where Panera received a permit to build last month.

“We anticipate that this café will open in mid-November of this year,” a Panera representative told ARLnow.

This is Arlington’s fourth Panera Bread

  • It joins locations in Ballston and the Rosslyn Metro station, as well as a restaurant inside the Pentagon.
  • Other tenants at Crystal and Clark Tower include Mezeh, Subway, New Yorker Grill and Buffalo Wild Wings.
  • The property is still expected to welcome an unnamed “national boutique grocer” at some point, according to a site plan, although possible plans for a Trader Joe’s fell through last year.
