Japanese franchise ‘Takagi Coffee’ plans new Pentagon City cafe

A coffeehouse franchise based in Japan plans to open its first East Coast location in Pentagon City.

Takagi Coffee has inked a deal at 721 15th Street S., in between Tend and Yunnan by Potomac Noodle House. The cafe applied for a commercial building permit last Friday.

Takagi is an international franchise

  • Founded in Japan in 1958, the cafe took its first step into U.S. markets with a Los Angeles location that opened earlier this year.
  • The Los Angeles location is Takagi’s single North American location, alongside shops across Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong.
  • In Pentagon City, plans published by Kimco Realty show the cafe will fill a 2,153-square foot vacancy.

It has fluffy specialty pancakes

  • Abroad, Takagi is known for its signature soufflé-style pancakes, offered in rotating, limited-time flavors like matcha and mocha.
  • In Los Angeles, the shop offers typical cafe drinks and teas as well as Japanese-style rice plates, omelets and pasta.
