Two nightlife venues have closed in Clarendon ahead of a neighborhood redevelopment project.
Arlington Beer Garden is no longer in business at 3217 10th Street N., an employee told ARLnow, and the nearby Clarendon 54 club is now fenced off, with new signage advising of “on-site construction activity” at 3200 Wilson Blvd.
The venues are part of a parcel of land known as “Bingham Center,” which is slated for redevelopment into a 229-room hotel and 290-unit apartment building with ground-floor retail.
Redevelopment plans were initially approved by the County Board in September 2023. Demolition is expected to get underway later this year, but a definitive timeline is not yet available, according to a spokesperson for developer Mill Creek Residential.
No activity was seen outside the Clarendon 54 site earlier this week, but signs posted by Mill Creek Residential give notice of construction from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends for “delivery of materials/equipment.”
Both nightlife venues had undergone some changes over the past few years while awaiting the redevelopment project.
The Arlington Beer Garden, a seasonal outdoor establishment previously known as The Lot, reopened two years ago under new ownership. Meanwhile, Clarendon 54 — located in the former Silver Diner building — rebranded from “Billiards, Beverages and Bites” last March.
Elsewhere in Clarendon, demolition for a different redevelopment project has gotten underway at the Joyce Motors site, with plans for an 11-story residential building, ground-floor retail and nine committed affordable units.
Additionally, demolition on an office tower at 3033 Wilson Blvd is expected to get underway this week, making way for an eight-story residential building.
