A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was just issued for Arlington and the D.C. area.
Damaging wind gusts, hail and frequent lightning is possible, forecasters say. The watch is in effect until 9 p.m.
As of publication time, scattered storms were starting to form to the west of the immediate metro area.
The watch follows storms packing damaging winds that knocked out power to thousands in Arlington and Falls Church last night (Thursday). Power restoration was still ongoing as of Friday afternoon.

We expect thunderstorms to start forming after 3PM today and persist through this evening. Damaging winds are the primary hazard, but isolated hail is also possible.
