A brewpub concept from a Sterling brewing company is pursuing a partnership with a Mexican restaurant in Ballston.
Solace Outpost has applied for a license to sell alcohol at 4201 Wilson Blvd, at the site of El Rey taqueria and margarita bar. Solace Brewing Company co-founder Jon Humerick told ARLnow that Solace is “finalizing terms” on an agreement with El Rey’s current owners, potentially involving co-ownership.
“We have applied for an ABC application for that El Rey location,” Humerick said. “Unfortunately, I don’t have much more information to share at the moment, like opening dates, menus, etc.”
H2 Collective, which owns El Rey as well as Crystal City’s Bar Colline, said it does not have any information to share with the public.
Solace Outpost has two existing locations, one in Navy Yard and one at 444 W. Broad Street in Falls Church, where it serves up traditional brewpub fare as well as its own beers. The brewery’s products include numerous IPAs such as the “Sun’s Out Hops Out,” “Lil Bit Cloudy” and “Mechanical Music,” along with pilsners and other beers.
Its food offerings include sandwiches such as a BLT chicken sandwich and “The Bootlegger” burger with cheddar cheese, moonshine barbecue sauce and bacon, plus several loaded tater tot options, salad bowls, bratwurst and hot dogs.
El Rey’s menu currently offers tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and meaty chicken wings tossed in mango habeñero or buffalo sauce. Its also known for its margarita selection.
El Rey has two other locations outside of Ballston, both in D.C.
Humerick said that more details regarding the partnership will be released in the coming weeks.
