A development project next to the Ballston Harris Teeter has been growing up fast.
The first apartments in the 197-unit building at 600 N. Glebe Road are expected to become available in spring 2027, Mary Senn, vice president of Southeastern Development Associates, told ARLnow.
The building, which will come with a 0.6-acre public park, is the second of three planned for the Harris Teeter site. It will be considered part of the existing, 310-unit UrbA project at 624 N. Glebe Road, which began leasing in fall 2023. The two buildings will share amenities.
A final phase of the project will replace the current parking lot across the street from the Harris Teeter with a 227-unit residential building with retail on the ground floor and two levels of below-grade parking.
This complicated project involved the demolition of the former Harris Teeter in October 2024. The grocery store relocated across the street to a new location on the ground floor of the UrbA apartment building.
Construction on UrbA Phase II has been the subject of an online photo album by a neighborhood photographer, who has captured dozens of scenes of the work that has gone into the building.
The County Board approved the project in November 2019.
Elsewhere in Ballston, another redevelopment project has been progressing at the former Macy’s site at 685 N. Glebe Road. That 553-unit project is planning for its first move-ins in the third quarter of 2027.
