Middle Eastern restaurant ‘coming soon’ to Ya Hala Bistro spot

A new restaurant is preparing to replace the now-shuttered Ya Hala Bistro in Bluemont.

The forthcoming tenant, Al Shami Restaurant, hopes to open at 5216 Wilson Blvd in the next couple weeks, serving dishes similar to its predecessor, owner Basima Chouban told ARLnow.

Al Shami will continue offering Middle Eastern food

  • Chouban mentioned menu items like hummus, baba ganoush, and chicken and beef shawarma.
  • After some interior changes, the restaurant should be able to seat up to 66 guests.
  • “I hope it can open before New Year’s,” Chouban said, but she added that getting necessary permits might take another couple weeks.

Ya Hala Bistro spent about a year in business

  • The restaurant and hookah lounge opened last November in the space previously occupied by Layalina Restaurant since 1997.
  • Offerings included falafel, kabobs, shawarma and craft cocktails.
