A D.C.-based Italian sandwich shop and deli is making its way across the Potomac to Ballston.
Grazie Grazie is preparing to open across from Hawkers Asian Street Food at 4201 Wilson Blvd. It will be the business’s third location and first shop outside D.C.
Grazie Grazie has some of D.C.’s ‘best sandwiches’
- That’s according to a 2021 list by The Washington Post, which praised a former menu item loaded with pork, provolone and broccoli rabe.
- Today, the Philadelphia-inspired deli still offers loaded Italian sandwiches, salads and cheesesteaks, as well as appetizers like fried mozzarella cubes and pasta salad.
- Grazie Grazie’s K Street location also offers a selection of pizzas with toppings like fresh basil, cherry peppers and Italian sausage.
The storefront has been empty since 2022
- The sandwich shop’s signage has appeared where a Foxtrot market and cafe previously planned to open in late 2023. The opening never happened as the company permanently shut down.
- Before that, the location was fast-casual chicken sandwich shop Farmbird, which closed in 2022.
Grazie Grazie’s founder has several other projects
- Casey Patten is a local restaurateur with co-ownership of D.C.’s Italian restaurant Grazie Nonna and fast-casual eatery Little Chicken.
- Patten also founded regional sandwich chain Taylor Gourmet, which is now under new ownership after filing for bankruptcy in 2018.
