An Afghan restaurant across the street from Ballston Quarter has closed after a little less than three years in business.
Grill Kabob, which opened in early 2023 and was one of 14 D.C.-area locations for the family-owned chain, is now listed as “permanently closed” on Google. It provided the following storefront message.
“This Grill Kabob location is closed,” says a sign at 708 N. Glebe Road. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, this location is not currently operating. Thank you for your understanding and for your continued patronage.”
The Ballston restaurant offered “authentic Afghan” and halal cuisine, according to its website. That included chicken, beef and lamb kabobs, plus various sandwiches, gyros and salads.
Though no more Arlington locations remain for the chain, Grill Kabob has five other Northern Virginia spots in Fairfax County.
Grill Kabob’s closure is just the latest move in a neighborhood that sees regular changes to its portfolio of restaurants.
In the past two months alone, both Grand Cru Wine Bar and Bistro and Pirouette Cafe and Wine Shop have closed their doors for good. However, two new restaurants are expected to open soon at Ballston Quarter: Italian eatery Scolapasta and Top Pot, which will offer hot pot and Korean barbecue.
