A man on a bike was injured in a crash along Wilson Blvd in the Bluemont neighborhood this afternoon.
The incident happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. at the intersection with N. Lexington Street. Initial reports suggest that a driver struck the cyclist in the intersection, sending him hurtling to the ground.
Good samaritans could be seen aiding the stricken cyclist, who remained down in the middle of N. Lexington Street, until medics arrived. The driver appears to have remained on scene.
The man reportedly suffered traumatic but non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The crash happened near Bon Air Park, along a stretch of Wilson Blvd that features protected bike lanes. Last year a cyclist was seriously injured about a block away from today’s crash when they were struck by a driver making a lefthand turn onto N. Manchester Street.
The latest incident follows last night’s pair of fatal pedestrian crashes along S. Glebe Road and Columbia Pike.
