After a lot of hard work, Good Trouble Roasters is now serving up coffee in Cherrydale ahead of a grand opening next week.
The coffee shop offers selections of beans roasted in-house, pastries and sandwiches from local establishments and, in the near future, alcoholic beverages. Its grand opening at 3800 Langston Blvd is planned for next Wednesday morning.
“Pulling down the coming soon signs was cathartic,” said Mike Greiner, who owns the shop.
The 44-year-old New Mexico native took a circuitous journey to his coffee shop. He moved around the country a lot for 13 years as a military spouse, including a four-year stint in this area from 2017 to 2021. After that, he and his wife knew they wanted to return, so they engineered a return in 2023 as she wrapped up her service.
Greiner, who also owns the New Mexico-based salsa company Black Market Salsa, quickly started working toward his dream of operating a brick-and-mortar store. He’s been hammering it out for more than two years.
Greiner hopes the “quality food products” he works with will set him apart from other stores. He said it’s easy to dress up a coffee, but it’s better when you have a solid base.
“It’s so much better when you can uncomplicate it and do the simple things well,” he said.
The store also has an all-electric roaster on location and will roast its own coffee beans several times a week.
In addition to a variety of coffees, the shop sells pastries from the Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe and sandwiches from The Italian Store. It also plans to offer beer, wine and a small selection of liqueurs for coffee cocktails once Greiner acquires a liquor license.
Greiner emphasized that there is dedicated free parking and a rear entrance around the back of the building.
The shop will be open tomorrow and Sunday from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., and the grand opening is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Once it’s fully open, the store will operate from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.
