Report alleges history of antisemitism with limited consequences at Yorktown HS

A state investigation alleged repeated antisemitic incidents at Yorktown High School with limited response from the administration, according to a national outlet.

The Free Press reported on a 39-page summary of evidence that it says former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares (R) issued last October, alleging antisemitic conduct among students at Yorktown.

VHC Health gets record-breaking $17.5M donation, supporting new cancer center

A $17.5 million donation to VHC Health, the largest philanthropic gift in the organization’s history, is supporting a new cancer center expected to open in 2028.

VHC Health is renaming its outpatient pavilion the “Arlene Evans and Barry Dewberry Outpatient Pavilion” in honor of the donors, who previously contributed $3 million to the hospital that helped establish a simulation center on the hospital’s main Arlington campus.

Seki Sushi opens in Crystal City with extensive sushi roll menu

A new sushi restaurant has opened in Crystal City, offering a wide menu of sushi rolls and other Japanese dishes.

Seki Sushi serves nigiri, sashimi and sushi rolls such as The Pentagon Roll, with snow crab, avocado, cucumber, scallops, jalapenos and a poke sauce. It opened at 480 11th Street S. in late June and offers a dinner experience where patrons can sit at the bar and watch sushi chefs at work.

A sixth floor blaze in a condo tower near Ballston drew a large fire department response early Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 12:15 p.m. at the Hyde Park condo building at 4141 Henderson Road in the Buckingham neighborhood.

North Arlington neighborhoods lose power after tree falls across lines

Several northern Arlington neighborhoods lost power late Wednesday morning after a tree fell.

The tree fell across power and other utility lines shortly before 11 a.m., on Little Falls Road near the intersection with N. George Mason Drive, according to scanner traffic.

Arlington County Fair starts today with opening ceremony, outdoor fun

The Arlington County Fair opens today (Wednesday), kicking off five days of fun with a ceremony honoring the event’s 50th anniversary.

The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on the basketball courts at Thomas Jefferson Community Center (3501 2nd Street S.), featuring a photo booth, music and a historical photo display tracing 50 years of festivities.

New Arlington apartments are getting smaller, bucking nationwide trends

Arlington apartment rents remain among the most expensive in the nation, but the units themselves are on the smaller end, according to new data.

The average unit in apartment buildings constructed in Arlington between 2016 and 2025 is 815 square feet. That’s down 8% from the previous decade, when the typical new apartment was 859 square feet.

New stoplight installed near new Career Center on S. Walter Reed Drive

A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of S. Walter Reed Drive and 9th Street S. as part of a package of infrastructure upgrades.

The stoplight, located near the new Arlington Career Center facility, went live earlier this month. It’s intended to “make traffic patterns more predictable for everyone who crosses through the area,” Claudia Pors, the county’s transportation communications specialist, told ARLnow.
