Judge delays sentencing of man who fired gun at police during wild chase

An Arlington Circuit Court judge has delayed the sentencing of a man who admitted to shooting at police officers during a 2022 car chase through Arlington and Fairfax counties.

Ricardo Singleton must first undergo an evaluation through the state’s mental health assistance program, Judge Daniel S. Fiore II ruled Friday, before being sentenced on Aug. 16.

No stranger to the D.C. area, Boston-based Tatte Bakery & Cafe is set to begin serving customers on Wednesday at 269 19th Court S., in the retail space underneath one of two newer apartment towers at 1900 Crystal Drive.

Real-time train info screens coming soon to Arlington Metro station entrances

Entering a Metro station only to see your train leaving the station may soon be a thing of the past.

Digital display boards featuring arrival times will be installed outside several Arlington Metro stations in the next year or two, WMATA spokesperson Jordan Pascale tells ARLnow.

A large fire department response responded to an underground utility fire in Crystal City this afternoon.

The fire, on the 2400 block of Crystal Drive amid office and apartment buildings, followed reports of an “explosion” heard and felt in the area shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Arlington County’s run as the fittest “city” in America continues for a seventh consecutive year.

New rankings released Tuesday by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) again placed Arlington in the top spot, with Washington, D.C. and Seattle rounding out the top three.

Arlington County Board to weigh renewal of shared services agreement with Fall Church

The future of a judicial and public services agreement between Arlington and Falls Church is on tonight’s Arlington County Board agenda.

The Board will weigh the renewal of the agreement, which outlines how the jurisdictions use and share the costs of the county’s Emergency Communications Center, certain judicial offices and other items.

Man who pushed woman out of moving car near Ballston sentenced

A Maryland man has been sentenced to 45 years behind bars after pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle near Ballston, causing severe injuries.

Willie James Clements Jr., 61, was sentenced to 35 years for aggravated malicious wounding, as well as the maximum 10 years for hit-and-run, in Arlington County Circuit Court last week.

Immigrant Food’s first foray outside of D.C. is scheduled to open in Ballston next week, owners told ARLnow.

The restaurant, opening Tuesday across from the Ballston Metro station at 4245 Fairfax Drive, is the newest outpost of “gastroadvacacy” dining for Immigrant Food, which launched in 2019. It will be the largest of the brand’s four restaurants.

Interior construction is underway at Lantern Restaurant & Bar, which expects to open toward the end of this year, according to a county staff report for the Arlington County Board.

Change appears to be coming to the Clarendon building housing music venue B Live and rooftop bar Coco B’s.

The property at 2854 Wilson Blvd, built in 1951 and formerly home to longtime local bar Whitlow’s, has been listed for sale or lease online. A brochure says the first floor and rooftop space, totalling nearly 8,000 square feet, “can be leased separately or together.”
